UCAS application

Students apply to University through UCAS – the University Colleague Admissions Service.  (www.ucas.com)  The process begins at the end of Year 12 where students have the option to make university visits to help them choose the right institution and course.  They also receive talks and workshops from University professionals in CLF+ time as they begin to write a personal statement up to 47 lines and 4000 characters long.  In the September/October of a student’s final year of study, they choose up to five course choices and submit their application to UCAS by 15th January.  Some courses such as law and medicine for example, may require students to sit admissions tests.  Students need to be aware of these and ensure they register or request via CLF Post 16 to be registered for relevant tests in the first few days of September.  Once students receive offers of places, they can choose to accept one as their firm choice and one as an insurance place.  If they hold no offers by 25th February and have either declined or been declined from their first 5 choices, they can apply for one extra course at a time via UCAS Extra.  On results day, if students have not met the conditions of their firm or insurance offers, or they hold no offers, they can apply for courses where there are still spaces through clearing.  Full information can be found both on the UCAS website and in our CLF Post 16 guide to UCAS booklet which can be found here:   INSERT
