Spotlight - Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Many schools and sixth form centres boast a high quality Performing Arts provision. Few however can boast taking students to the largest arts festival in the world. For 11 years now, the CLF Post 16 has done just that!

As part of the Fringe Festival, every year thousands of performers take to hundreds of stages all over Edinburgh as part of the Fringe to present shows for every taste, from big names in the world of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers.

Each year in May, auditions are held within the CLF Post 16 to recruit a dedicated and talented cast of young performers, singers and tech crew to take a show to Edinburgh for a week. Past shows have included the popular homegrown musical ‘Cluedo’, as well as new devised pieces such as ‘YOLO’ in 2014. The rehearsal and subsequent performance schedule is grueling and, besides teaching students an array of new skills and techniques within the Performing Arts, it introduces them to the real world of theatre.

As you’ll see from Tom Howell (featured later in this prospectus), this experience has the potential to change lives and live on in the dreams of its participants for years to come. As well as providing an excellent experience for students, reference to it makes for an outstanding opening paragraph in any university application!
