Trips to local and national galleries and visits from local artists and galleries through outreach programmes.
The aim of the first year is to explore and develop a portfolio of techniques and artistic approaches based on a variety of starting points, concepts, themes or an issue. You will work in two or more of the following areas: Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Textile Design, 3D design, Photography.
Component 1: This is a personal practical investigation into an idea, issue, concept or theme, supported by written material. The investigation must show clear development from initial intentions leading to a finished outcome or series of outcomes.
Component 2: Externally set assignment.
Many students progress to Art Foundation courses or to higher education in a wide variety of fields from Product Design to Fine Art.
The Arts is the UKâ€™s third largest industry and students may aim to join the world of work as graphic designers, illustrators, typographers or become painters, textile designers, fashion designers, photographers to name just a few.
