Art & Design Transition

This course is for students who have a strong interest in Art and Design related areas who wish to study a broad based course before specialising in a particular field.

Course Overview
Year 1

Cambridge Technicals are unit based and therefore exam free. So if you enjoy art and would like to develop your creative and technical skills, then this course is for you.

Year 1 - 6 Units

During this year you will complete 6 unit-based projects.

There will be a focus on developing skills through drawing,

painting and printmaking. You will also research the work

of artists that will help identify and develop your own style

of working.

Year 2

Year 2 - 6 Units

You will complete a further 6 units of work that build upon

your creative strengths and be introduced to a wide variety of media and processes, such as textiles and photography.


Further learning, leading to Higher Education. Developing knowledge, transferable skills and personal skills with the

aim of enhancing employability.


The Art and Design industry has many strands that you can specialise in, ranging from popular routes such as fashion

design and photography to animation, body art and web design. The most formal routes are apprenticeships,

further and higher education.

Additional entry requirements:

Students will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment. The course requires considerable work to be completed outside of lessons.


While you will receive ongoing verbal feedback each lesson, a formal assessment

will take place following the completion of every unit. The work will be assigned a grade

of Pass, Merit, Distinction, Distinction*.
