BTEC National Certificate
As with all BTEC courses, there are mandatory units. Learners taking this qualification will study three mandatory units:
- Music Ensemble Performance
- Understanding Music
- Professional Practice in the Music Industry
Learners choose one optional unit to support their choices in progression to music courses in higher education, and to link with relevant occupational areas. Optional units cover content areas such as:
- Arranging Music
- Composing Music
- Solo Performance
The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with academics to ensure that it supports progression to higher education. In addition, employers and professional bodies have been involved and consulted, in order to confirm that the content is appropriate and consistent with current practice, should learners choose to enter employment directly in the music sector.
In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin study of the music sector, this qualification offers learners experience of the breadth and depth of the sector to prepare them for further study or training.
The course is designed to give you a broad and balanced understanding of all facets of music. The course offers excellent preparation for higher education courses in music but equally will enable learners to begin their careers in their chosen field of music.
